Organization of separate RSW collection system in Semey
In March 2021, the EPR Operator transferred the equipment for the separate collection of residential solid waste to the city of Semey for further implementation and creation of infrastructure. 1,582 containers and 6 units of special equipment for their maintenance were purchased for the city. Separate collection of solid waste will be carried out in three fractions: “light” – processable waste (plastic, paper, metal), “heavy” (glass) and “wet” – non-processable waste (food waste, etc.).
Every year in Semey, 100,000 thousand tons of residential solid waste is formed, which is almost 300 tons per day. Of this volume of waste, 45% is secondary raw materials suitable for processing. At present, the depth of solid waste processing in the city is about 16.4%, the introduction of separate waste collection will increase this figure to 30%.
At the expense of funds from the local budget and a waste disposal organization, containers for collecting food waste will be updated.
The key point of the project for organization of the infrastructure for the separate collection of solid waste in Semey is the construction and launch of an automatic waste sorting line with a production capacity of 100,000 tons of solid waste per year in September 2021.
