Organization of separate RSW collection system in Ust-Kamenogorsk
In March 2021, the EPR Operator transferred equipment for the separate collection of residential solid waste to the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk for further implementation and creation of infrastructure. 1,274 containers and 6 units of special equipment for their maintenance were purchased for the regional center. Separate collection of solid waste will be carried out in three fractions: “light” – processable waste (plastic, paper, metal), “heavy” (glass) and “wet” – non-processable waste (food waste, etc.).
Every year in Ust-Kamenogorsk, 132,000 thousand tons of residential solid waste are formed, which is almost 400 tons per day. Of this volume of waste, 45% is secondary raw materials suitable for processing. Currently, the depth of solid waste processing in the regional center is about 10%, the introduction of separate waste collection will increase this figure to 30%.
At the expense of the local budget and garbage disposal organizations, more than 2,000 containers for collecting food waste were purchased, 10 stationary collection points for secondary raw materials were installed and the construction of facilities for placing automated sorting lines was funded.
The key point of the project for organization of the infrastructure for the separate collection of solid waste in Ust-Kamenogorsk is the construction and launch of an automatic waste sorting line with a production capacity of 100,000 tons of solid waste per year in September 2021.
