In Kazakhstan, the EPR principle since the beginning of 2016 applies to importers and producers of vehicles and auto components (tires, tire covers, electric batteries, motor oils, brake fluids, antifreezes and anti-icing fluids). This list of products was approved by order of the Ministry of Energy No.27 dated January 28, 2016.
Since 2016, a compensation mechanism has been introduced in Kazakhstan, which implies payments to enterprises collecting, transporting and processing waste tires. Since 2020, in order to increase the target indicators of the EPR Operator for the collection, processing and disposal of waste, the amount of compensation payments for the collection and processing of waste tires has been increased to 37 KZT per kg.
VOLUMES OF COLLECTION, PROCESSING AND DISPOSAL OF WASTE TIRES
In Kazakhstan 14,366.5 tons of waste tires were processed in 2016, 20,047.4 tons in 2017, in 2018 the processers fulfilled contracts regarding the collection and processing of waste tires with a volume of 27,710 tons. At the end of 9 months of 2019, the volume of collection and processing of waste tires amounted to 19,001 tons.
