National Carbon Unit Registry

JSC "Zhasyl damu" is the operator of Kazakhstan's emissions trading system, responsible for maintaining the national carbon unit registry to ensure the effective functioning of the emissions trading system in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The company also facilitates carbon unit transactions in accordance with Kazakhstan's international climate agreements.

The national carbon unit registry, essential for the operation of the emissions trading system in Kazakhstan, is established before the start of each carbon budgeting period, as defined in Article 286 of the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (https://adilet.zan.kz/eng/docs/K2100000400).

The primary functions of the national carbon unit registry include ensuring accurate accounting of carbon units that are issued, held in reserve, transferred, acquired, reserved, blocked, canceled, retired, or withdrawn from circulation, as well as facilitating data exchange with other national registries.
