From 18 to 19 December, the final, sixth meeting of the Steering Committee of the FAO/GEF regional project “Pesticide Life-Cycle Management and Disposal of POP Pesticides in Central Asia and Turkey” is being held in Istanbul, Turkey.
The project covers Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Turkey, and is aimed at addressing pressing environmental challenges in the region, including the environmentally sound disposal of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and obsolete pesticides, as well as strengthening pesticide management systems.
During the meeting, participants are reviewing the outcomes of project implementation, discussing achieved results, lessons learned, and further steps to ensure the sustainability of project achievements and the development of regional cooperation.
The meeting is attended by members of the national project team, including Asel Rakhymova, Head of the Industrial Waste Management Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Anar Sarsenova, Director of the Department for Historical Waste Management of JSC “Zhasyl Damu.”
