“EcoQolday”: Business and Government Strengthen Cooperation in the Waste Management Sector

A working meeting with business entities engaged in the collection, transportation, recycling, and disposal of waste within the framework of the “EcoQolday” program was held at JSC “Zhasyl Damu”. The event was moderated by R.K. Tukenov, Director of the Waste Management Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The meeting focused on summarizing the interim results of the program’s implementation, as well as discussing planned changes and additions to its mechanisms. A report on the progress of the “EcoQolday” program was delivered by Nurzhan Kenesbayevich Kabdoldanov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “Zhasyl Damu”. Bakhtiyar Zhanibekuly Shynybay, Chief Manager of the Waste Management Organization Department of JSC “Zhasyl Damu”, presented information on the planned amendments and enhancements to the program.

The main objective of the meeting was to strengthen dialogue between the government and the business community, improve the effectiveness of the program, and adapt it to the real needs of the market. The “EcoQolday” program has been implemented nationwide for the second year and aims to establish a sustainable waste management system. One of the key targets is to achieve a 40% recycling and recovery rate of municipal waste by 2030.

More than 50 companies took part in the meeting. During the discussion, all participants were given the opportunity to ask questions of interest and receive relevant answers.

Participants were also informed about the possibility of obtaining individual consultations, accessing information through the Company’s online resources, and using the “Frequently Asked Questions” section available on the official website.

As of today, 83 companies engaged in waste collection, transportation, and recycling are participating in the program. Since the launch of the program, more than 60 thousand tons of waste have been sent for recycling. The total amount of payments has reached approximately KZT 1.15 billion.

Special attention during the meeting was given to compliance with regulatory legal acts. According to representatives of authorized bodies, a significant portion of rejected reports is related to violations of documentation requirements, including issues arising during waste transportation and the preparation of accompanying documents.

The meeting became an important platform for open dialogue and feedback with the business community in line with the “Hearing State” concept. The implementation of the “EcoQolday” program remains a key part of the mission of JSC “Zhasyl Damu” to promote a sustainable economy and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
