JSC “Zhasyl Damu” Participates in the International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management

From October 13 to 15, 2025, the city of Novosibirsk (Russian Federation) is hosting the international conference “Persistent Organic Pollutants: Issues of Management, Inventory, and Disposal”, organized by the Regional Centre of the Russian Federation for the Stockholm Convention based at the Vorozhtsov Institute of Organic Chemistry, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS).

The conference aims to promote the exchange of experience among the parties to the Stockholm Convention on the environmentally sound management of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), inventory of contaminated sites, and implementation of advanced technologies for their neutralization and disposal.

As part of the conference, a practical training course titled “Analysis of Persistent Organic Pollutants in Environmental Objects” is also being held at the institute’s laboratory. The course focuses on improving the qualifications of specialists and familiarizing them with modern analytical methods for determining POPs.

The Republic of Kazakhstan is represented at the event by Dana Agybayeva, Chief Expert of the Department of Waste Management of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Aizhan Zhakiianova, Manager of the Department for Management of Historical Waste at JSC “Zhasyl Damu”.

The participation of Kazakhstani specialists contributes to strengthening international cooperation, exchanging experience, and introducing best practices in hazardous waste management in Kazakhstan, in line with the country’s commitments under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
