Meeting with Members of the Committee on Agrarian Issues, Ecology and Natural Resources of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Today, at the Committee on Agrarian Issues, Ecology and Natural Resources of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an introductory meeting with members of the Committee was held at the initiative of the leadership of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

During the meeting, the Minister emphasized that the Ministry would make every effort to establish a qualitatively new and open dialogue and expressed hope for systematic cooperation with the deputy corps.

A. Kuantyrov briefed the participants on the Ministry’s legislative activities and provided a detailed overview of the implementation of the instructions of the Head of State. In particular, he addressed the implementation of the Taza Qazaqstan environmental initiative, digitalization and automation, Kazakhstan’s efforts to fulfil its international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality, the development of the national emissions trading system, waste management, forest restoration, the implementation of forest carbon projects, the development of ecotourism and infrastructure in national parks, forest nurseries, the protection of forests from fires and illegal logging, as well as the conservation of unique natural ecosystems, restoration of populations of rare animal species, sustainable use of biological resources, and other areas.

The meeting featured an active dialogue between the members of the Committee and representatives of the Ministry. The deputies raised a number of pressing issues, including the regulation of the saiga population, the use and sale of saiga derivatives, the disposal of agricultural waste, air pollution in major cities, improving the effectiveness of environmental monitoring through the modernization of Kazhydromet, strengthening the role of the Caspian Sea Research Institute, and enhancing state environmental oversight of natural resource users.

The Minister, Vice Ministers, and directors of the relevant departments responded to all questions raised by the members of the Committee.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the members of the Committee were invited to visit specialized enterprises in the Karaganda Region in order to gain first-hand insight into the work of the sector, including the mechanisms for supporting waste recycling through recycling fee proceeds administered by JSC Zhasyl Damu.

Such a visit would provide a practical basis for joint legislative work and the development of proposals aimed at improving waste management legislation.
