JSC "Zhasyl Damu" Allocated KZT 116 Billion to Develop Waste Recycling in Kazakhstan

With the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, JSC "Zhasyl Damu" has allocated approximately KZT 116 billion from the recycling fee to finance 30 projects aimed at developing modern waste management infrastructure. These projects include the construction of new recycling facilities, the establishment of waste sorting complexes, and the procurement of specialized equipment.

In total, the Investment Headquarters under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan has approved 68 projects with a total financing volume of KZT 376.8 billion. Of these, 30 projects have already received funding.

Among the funded projects, five involve the construction of municipal solid waste (MSW) sorting facilities with a combined capacity of 640,000 tonnes per year, 16 projects are focused on waste recycling with a total processing capacity of 430,000 tonnes per year, and nine projects provide for the purchase of 128 units of specialized equipment.

To date, 12 projects have already been commissioned. As part of these projects, 122 units of specialized equipment have been procured, waste sorting lines with a combined capacity of 140,000 tonnes per year have been put into operation, and recycling facilities with a total capacity of 18,300 tonnes per year have been launched.

The largest share of financing has been allocated to projects in Almaty, North Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Aktobe, and Kostanay regions. Projects are also being implemented in the Atyrau, Akmola, Mangystau, East Kazakhstan, Abai regions, as well as in Astana, Shymkent, and other regions across Kazakhstan.

The projects cover nearly all major sectors of the waste management industry, including the recycling of waste paper, PET bottles, end-of-life tires, food waste, and other types of waste, as well as the modernization of existing recycling enterprises and the renewal of specialized vehicle fleets.

Implementation of new projects is ongoing. Additional initiatives are currently at various stages of review, approval, and preparation for financing in accordance with established procedures.

It should be noted that the allocation of recycling fee funds is carried out in accordance with the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The implementation of these projects contributes to the development of modern waste management infrastructure, increases recycling capacity, reduces the volume of waste sent to landfills, and promotes the use of secondary raw materials in the circular economy.
