New Paper Recycling Capacity Is Being Developed in the Abai Region

With the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhasyl Damu JSC continues to implement projects aimed at developing modern waste management infrastructure.

Two investment projects focused on paper waste recycling are currently being implemented in the Abai Region. Once commissioned, their combined processing capacity will exceed 17,500 tonnes of waste paper per year, helping increase the recycling of secondary raw materials, reduce landfill disposal, and supply domestic manufacturers with recycled feedstock.

One of these projects is being implemented by Kazlesprom LTD LLP, with a planned processing capacity of 2,534 tonnes of paper waste per year. The total investment amounts to KZT 316.7 million.

The project is currently progressing according to the approved schedule. Gasification works and electricity grid connection are underway at the site. The facility is expected to be commissioned in September 2026.

Another project is being implemented by VostokGofrotara LLP. Once operational, the enterprise will be able to process 15,000 tonnes of paper waste annually. The total investment amounts to KZT 2 billion.

To date, the allocated funds have been fully utilized. The company is completing preparations for equipment shipment, with overall readiness at approximately 30%. The first batch of equipment is expected to arrive in August, while the second batch is scheduled for September–October 2026. Installation is planned for the first quarter of 2027, with commissioning expected later in 2027.

As a reminder, Zhasyl Damu JSC has financed 30 projects with a total value of approximately KZT 116 billion using funds from the utilization fee. The implementation of these projects contributes to the development of modern waste management infrastructure, increases recycling capacity, reduces landfill disposal, and promotes the use of secondary raw materials in the circular economy in accordance with the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
