Zhasyl Damu JSC Strengthens Capacity in Climate Reporting at the Regional Level

Employees of Zhasyl Damu JSC participated in a regional training on greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory development and policy assessment in the Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) sector.

From 2 to 5 February 2026, a regional practical training titled “Enhancing Capacity for the Development of Greenhouse Gas Inventories and Policy Assessment in the LULUCF Sector” was held in Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan. The event was organized within the framework of the Regional Climate Action Transparency Hub for Central Asia (ReCATH) with the support of the Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT).

The training brought together representatives of relevant government agencies and technical experts from Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan. Zhasyl Damu JSC, acting as the national operator in the field of climate reporting and carbon regulation, actively participated in the event aimed at strengthening the institutional and technical capacities of countries in the region in implementing their commitments under the Paris Agreement.

The training covered methodological approaches to the development of national GHG inventories in the LULUCF sector, as well as issues related to assessing the impact of policy measures on greenhouse gas emissions and removals. Particular attention was given to practical aspects of data preparation, land-use and land-use change tracking, and the application of analytical tools for evaluating climate policy measures.

Zhasyl Damu JSC consistently contributes to the establishment and development of the national GHG inventory system, including the improvement of methodological approaches, enhancement of quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures, and strengthening of interagency coordination. Participation in regional training events facilitates knowledge exchange with Central Asian countries and the integration of best practices into the national climate reporting system.

According to the national GHG inventory data, the “Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry” sector plays a key role in Kazakhstan’s climate policy. The sector covers significant areas of agricultural and forest lands and has a substantial impact on the overall balance of greenhouse gas emissions and removals. The country’s high natural and climatic heterogeneity requires the application of comprehensive and scientifically sound approaches to the assessment of this sector.

The training enabled participants to discuss existing methodological and institutional challenges, identify priority areas for further work, and outline steps to improve national inventories and policy assessments. The knowledge and practical skills gained during the event will be applied by Zhasyl Damu JSC in its ongoing efforts to enhance the transparency, comparability, and accuracy of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s climate reporting system.
