Ecological Experience Exchange: Jasyl Damu JSC Hosts an International Delegation

Today, a working meeting was held at JSC “Zhasyl Damu” with the participation of Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhomart Shiyapovich Aliyev, and representatives of the international expert community. The event took place as part of a visit by a delegation from the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES, Japan), organized with the participation of the Association of Packers of Kazakhstan. The delegation included Dr. Premakumar Jagath Dikella Gamaralage, Director of the IGES Centre, and Dr. Chen Liu, Senior Research Manager.

At the JSC “Zhasyl Damu” venue, participants discussed the current state of the waste management system in Kazakhstan, issues related to the availability and quality of secondary raw materials, as well as prospects for the development of the sector in line with international standards and practices. Particular attention was given to the implementation and improvement of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) mechanism. During the meeting, IGES representatives presented the Japanese EPR model and shared practical experience in its implementation.

The meeting served as an effective platform for professional dialogue, exchange of experience, and the development of joint approaches to building a sustainable waste management system. As a result of the event, analytical information was collected for further research, and proposals were formulated for the development of environmental policy in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
