Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Zhasyl Damu JSC, Nurzhan Kabdoldanov, took part in the Second International Conference, “Proficiency Testing (Interlaboratory Comparisons) from a Reliable Provider: Close and Accessible.”
The event, organized by the Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Expertise of the Medical Center of the Administrative Office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, brought together representatives of government agencies, testing and medical laboratories, proficiency testing providers, and international partners.
In his presentation, Nurzhan Kabdoldanov highlighted the Company's work in managing ownerless hazardous waste transferred to state ownership by court decision. To date, 17 such sites have been transferred, containing toxic chemicals, pesticides, chemical and radioactive substances, oil sludge, mercury-containing waste, and persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The necessary remediation work has already been completed at several sites, while further measures are planned for the remaining ones.
He also outlined the key priorities for reforming the waste management sector, including strengthening coordination among stakeholders, digitalizing waste management processes, and expanding recycling infrastructure.
Special attention was given to laboratory testing of hazardous waste. Among the key priorities identified were the development of laboratory infrastructure and the creation of user-friendly digital tools to facilitate the search for organizations accredited to conduct the required analyses.
Zhasyl Damu JSC also expressed its readiness to implement joint projects in the field of monitoring and the environmentally sound management of persistent organic pollutants.
Following the conference, Zhasyl Damu JSC and the Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Expertise signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening future collaboration.
